CitrusTV Members Intern at Rio Olympics

While you watch this summer’s 2016 Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, many CitrusTV members will be making the production happen behind the scenes. 258 students from 100 colleges and universities will work with broadcasting professionals in both Stamford, Connecticut and Rio de Janeiro as paid interns for NBC. Their roles include shot selectors, loggers, and runners, to name a few.

Of the 22 students selected to intern from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, 13 are CitrusTV members. Students in Stamford include television, radio and film major Kyle Desiderio and broadcast and digital journalism majors Lauren Anderson, Jared Barton, Colleen Callander, Elissa Candiotti, Kate Capodanno, Meghan Mistry, Claire Moran, Brittany Muller and Jamie Weiss. In Rio, members include broadcast and digital journalism majors Brooke Glatz and Maddy Oleszkiewicz, and television, radio, and film major Julie McCullough.

It’s no accident that so many well-qualified interns were selected from Syracuse University. The students who also work at CitrusTV bring a tremendous skill-set to the table before their internships even begin. Through their real-world experience producing award-winning daily newscasts, creating exceptional college sports coverage, and writing and shooting sketch comedy, documentary, and other entertainment programming, CitrusTV prepares students each and every day.

Said Lauren Anderson (’17), on her internship: “CitrusTV taught me everything I know about producing, editing, and broadcasting in general. I would never have been as successful in my internships if it had not been for the hands-on experience I had at CitrusTV first.” Jared Barton (’17), who will be working as a Shot Selector in Stamford said that “CitrusTV gave [him] the knowledge of sports video editing” to succeed in such a position.

CitrusTV congratulates these members on their internships, wishes them the best of luck, and looks forward to the experience they will be able to bring back to the studio in the coming semester.
