CHARLES, M.O. — When Syracuse ice hockey (6-7, 4-2 Atlantic Hockey America) bested Lindenwood (3-11, 2-4 AHA) 2-1 on the road in overtime Friday, it took until the third period for SU to find the back of the net. In the second matchup of the two-game series Saturday afternoon, the Orange got off to a much quicker start with their first goal coming just over four minutes into the first period from Syracuse defender Charlotte Hallett. However, that would be SU’s only score, as committing seven penalties was too much for the Orange to overcome and Syracuse fell to LWU 4-1 to conclude the series.

Saturday’s loss marked the third time this season that SU has committed seven or more penalties in a single game. Syracuse is 1-2 in those contests. In the second matchup of its weekend series with Lindenwood, the Lions took advantage of those penalties. LWU had eight total power play opportunities, scoring goals on two of them. The first came from Lindenwood forward Hannah Dods in the first period to put the Lions on the board. Then, forward Tatiana Blichova connected during a power play opportunity in the second period to put LWU in front 3-1. The freshman was the leading scorer for either team with two goals, her second multi-goal outing of her collegiate career. Lindenwood’s four as a team is the second most in a contest for the Lions this season. In Saturday’s matchup, Syracuse had six different players commit penalties, with forward Nea Tervonen getting called for two.

SU returns to the ice and tries to provide fewer power play opportunities for its opponent when it visits No. 6 Penn State (12-0, 8-0 AHA) next Friday for a two-game series. Puck drop is at 2 p.m. EST on Nov. 14 from Pegula Ice Arena in University Park, PA.
