UNIVERSITY PARK, P.A. — It was a wire-to-wire finish on the road as Syracuse ice hockey (6-8, 4-3 Atlantic Hockey America) was decimated by No. 6 Penn State (13-0, 9-0 AHA) 7-0 to begin this weekend’s two-game series. SU recorded its third loss on the road and second consecutive defeat away from Tennity Ice Pavilion.

It didn’t take long for the Nittany Lions to get going. 24 seconds in, Penn State forward Katelyn Roberts scored to put the Nittany Lions on the board. Two minutes later, forward Tessa Janecke found the back of the net for Penn State. With three goals in the first period, the Nittany Lions created an early deficit that the Orange could not recover from.

Penn State had five players each tally more than one point. Roberts, Janecke, forward Matilde Fantin, and defenders Kendall Butze and Danica Maynard all had two. SU’s offense was outshot 43-14 and went 0-3 on power plays. Meanwhile, the Nittany Lions scored twice in the seven opportunities that the Orange gave them. The loss marked the fourth time this season that Syracuse has committed at least seven penalties.

SU suffered its sixth loss in a row to Penn State dating back to 2023. The Orange can get back on track Saturday when it wraps up this weekend’s two-game series against the Nittany Lions before heading home to Tennity. Puck drop is at 1 p.m. EST from Pegula Ice Arena in University Park, PA.
