BRIDGEWATER, M.A. — With two goals in the first period, four in the second and two more in the third, Syracuse ice hockey (2-2, 0-0 Atlantic Hockey America) never trailed in its 8-2 road victory over Stonehill (0-2, 0-0 New England Women’s Hockey Alliance), earning its first series sweep of the 2025-26 season. The Orange improved to 5-0 against the Skyhawks all-time and recorded their third shutout against the program.
Individually, SU forward Peyton Armstrong led the way with two goals. The sophomore was scoreless in Syracuse’s first three contests but finally found the net eight minutes into the second period to nab her sixth career goal. Eight minutes later, the forward struck again, scoring off an assist from Orange forward Emma Gnade to give Armstrong her second goal of the period. When it was all said and done, the sophomore led all scorers.
SU wasted no time getting on the board in the second game of this series. Friday afternoon, the Orange went down 1-0 to the Skyhawks 11 seconds into the first period. However, Syracuse forward Stella Costabile found the net five minutes into Saturday’s matchup to break the ice for the Orange. From there, SU put on an offensive clinic. Syracuse had five different goal scorers and fired a season best 50 shots on net. The Orange’s other goal scorers were Gnade, forwards Rylee McLeod, Haley Trudeau and Jordan Blouin, and defender Charlotte Hallett.
In the process, Syracuse finally scored its first power play goal of the season. Coming into Saturday’s game, SU was a combined 0-14 on power plays three games into the 2025-26 campaign, going 0-10 in its series with No. 5 Minnesota Duluth (4-0, 0-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Association). In the second matchup against Stonehill, the Orange had a 5-on-3 situation in the second period and right as the Skyhawks gained one player back on the ice, Armstrong’s goal broke the season long drought. Syracuse went 2-5 on power plays Saturday compared to 0-4 Friday, while Stonehill went 0-3 in game two of this series.
Similar to the first contest, game two of the series saw a new SU goalie in net. After freshman Ava Drabyk started in both contests in the series against UMD, junior Bella Gould got the nod last night. To wrap up the series, senior Maïka Paquin got the opportunity to showcase her netminding ability. The Canadian racked up 19 saves with a .905 save percentage.
Syracuse returns home next Friday and hops right back into ranked play with a two-game series against No. 8 Quinnipiac (3-0, 0-0 Eastern College Athletic Conference Hockey). Puck drop is at 5 p.m. from Tennity Ice Pavilion. For all coverage of that matchup and the first-half of SU’s 2025-26 season, follow @JaredValentin_ and @CitrusTVSports on X/Twitter!
