Dining Halls Are Open Again for Indoor Dining

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After a closure starting on March 17th, Syracuse University has officially reopened in-person dining. This comes as Covid-19 cases are no longer spiking on campus, and more and more students are getting vaccinated. 

Vice Chancellor J. Micheal Haynie stresses that this, and the cancellation of other in-person activities have all been out of an abundance of caution. He says SU is just concerned for the “health and safety” of the students. Any decision the administration makes is based on science and caution for campus and the greater Syracuse community. 

Students have certainly missed indoor dining, but understand the reasoning for keeping it closed for so long. Many on campus areas, such as Schine Student Center, tend to get very crowded. It is definitely a risk. Senior Evan Beebe states that it was “annoying” having to eat outside, especially when it was cold. Many students feel the same. 

Freshman Samantha Meyer talks about how the past month “felt like last semester” in the sense that students forgot that indoor dining even existed because it was gone for so long. With an on campus vaccine distribution site and a decrease in Covid-19 cases, hopefully indoor dining can stay open for the remainder of the semester.
