Syracuse Men’s Lacrosse Loses Fourth Straight Against Johns Hopkins

It was certainly a mixed day of emotions inside for Syracuse men’s lacrosse on Saturday.

While Mike Powell’s jersey now hangs in the rafters following a halftime ceremony, it was another sad day on the field for the Orange, as they fell 11-9 to Johns Hopkins.

SU had a lead with 7 minutes to go, but couldn’t close out the game with another top opponent.

After the contest, Syracuse Head Coach Gary Gait said that his team is on the cusp of something great.

“I told the guys to trust the work and believe in each other,” Coach Gait said. “I know I believe in these guys. I believe this team is gonna make a run. It’s gonna get some wins against some ranked opponents. They can still turn the season around. It’s only halfway there. We’ll work on it in practice and the experience will come.”

Gait paused for a second before saying, “These guys won’t forget these games.”

SU goalie Will Mark also commented on the team’s mentality going forward.

He said, “We’re lucky enough where we have so many games left. We have the opportunity to prove ourselves time-and-time-again. We need to keep working. We need to keep pushing… It’s gonna click because we’re right there.”

One player that was a star for the Blue Jays was their man in net Tim Marcille. The senior had a career-high 21 saves and only allowed nine goals.

The Orange now have a quick turnaround as they visit Hofstra on Tuesday.
