Syracuse Mens Lacrosse takes down Notre Dame to advance to ACC title Game
With just over 10 minutes left in the third quarter in the ACC semifinal contest between 4th seed Syracuse and top seed Notre Dame, SU held a two-goal lead with momentum strongly on its side….. and then for nearly an hour because of a lightning delay it seemed like that was gone. But the Orange came out from the stoppage ready to go, scored another five goals, and cruised to a 14-12 win over the Fighting Irish. Even during the long break, the message was the same from head coach Gary Gait to his squad.
“We talk a lot about what happened in the first half in the few minutes we had and after that we took some time to relax and then we got together and refocused and dialed it in before we got back on the field. Got a good warm up in and play. I trust these guys, and we always do what we think right, trying to prepare them. And you know the other teams got to deal with the same thing, so we’re both in the same situation and we did what we thought was right to prepare our guys, gave them some time and let them relax and then got them dialed in before we got back out”
The win over Notre Dame marked the first time since 2016 that Syracuse has made it to the ACC Championship. In that game this year, SU gets a shot at revenge when it battles Duke Sunday at noon. Just two weeks ago the Orange went down to Durham and lost to the Blue Devils 11-7.
