Syracuse ice hockey cruises after four unanswered goals against Robert Morris

Moon Township, Pa. – After Syracuse (6-2, 4-2 AHA) took down Robert Morris (3-5, 0-4 AHA) on Friday night, the Colonials were hungry for revenge. But they came up short and fell 6-2 to the Orange on Saturday afternoon. The first period was very slow, and not a lot happened. Syracuse continued its penalty troubles with two whistles, and also whiffed on a powerplay chance of its own. But after no big opportunities the game looked like it might be a low scoring affair. But the middle frame would turn that upside down.
Early in the second period the ‘Cuse took yet another penalty but this time the whistle never blew. Robert Morris scored first for the second time this weekend on the delayed penalty. But SU had an answer. Just four minutes later Jordan Blouin evened the score with her third of the year, and then the flood gates opened. Syracuse scored three more goals in a row and ended the second period up two. Nea Tervonen netted her second of the campaign, Maryn Broderick found her first in the block S, and Rachel Walsh got her first of the campaign. The ‘Cuse had a golden opportunity to get its first conference sweep of the season. The final twenty minutes painted a very similar picture. RMU scored an early goal to try to swing some momentum in its favor. But once again the ‘Cuse had an answer. Less than 40 seconds later Rylee McLeod gave SU its three goal lead back. After that Syracuse gave up another two penalties but nothing came from them, bringing their total up to ten this weekend. An empty netter from Jordan Blouin ended things and Syracuse leaves with two conference wins.
SU gets a week off before it hits the ink again. When the Orange return they will host Delaware (2-5-1, 1-3 AHA) for a pair of conference games. I’ll have coverage on X @cwmasterson16 when the squads do battle.
