WINSTON SALEM, N.C. – Syracuse men’s soccer (7-5-1, 1-3-1 ACC) traveled to face No. 23 Wake Forest (9-3-1, 4-2 ACC) tonight to cap off a stretch of five consecutive ranked opponents.
The Orange failed to convert on an opportunity in front of the net. A free kick from the left side resulted in two shots from Kristjan Fortier, one blocked and the other sailed way high above the net.
For most of the first half, it was all Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons doubled up the orange in shots six to three, and shots on goal two to one. But, the Deacs’ also played extremely physically, tallying eight total fouls through the first 45 minutes.
Syracuse had its chances through the second and kept Wake Forest off the scoreboard. That was until the 76th minute, when Daniel Krueger slid a shot into the bottom left corner to give the Demon Deacons the late lead. From there, it was all Deacs’ through the rest of the game
But, it wasn’t done from there. In the 84th minute, Alred Debah was left with wide open space from the left side outside the box, and shot a screamer into the top left corner to put Wake Forest up two goals. From there, the Demon Deacons cruised through for the victory.
The ‘Cuse falls to 7-6-1 and 1-4-1 in ACC play. Syracuse returns to SU Soccer stadium for the final time this season against Virginia on Saturday. The Cavaliers fell 2-0 to the Duke Blue Devils this weekend. Kickoff is at 7, be sure to follow @evan_zaretsky on X for live updates.
