Tenants Of The Marshall Luxury Apartments Displaced During Beginning Of Semester
By Taylor Lang – Syracuse, N.Y. (CitrusTV) – As students move into dorms, apartments, and houses to start the Fall 2018 semester, 82 tenants from The Marshall will not be able to move into their luxury apartments.
The Marshall apartments were expected to be ready by the time students were ready to move in, but tenants will now have to wait two or three weeks into the semester, according to Sarah Scalese, Syracuse University’s Associate Vice President of University Communications.
“We are learning from Aptitude Development about construction delays at The Marshall that will affect the move-in date for some of our returning students,” she said in a statement. “Because our students’ well-being is our top priority, we have agreed to help identify interim housing options.”
Because Aptitude Development is a private company, it has been communicating with tenants without the help of the university, according to Scalese. Tenants have been made aware of the situation and regularly updated since they received an email from General Manager Rick Norris in late June.
“We want to keep you updated as we have been moving quickly but have recently become aware that there is a possibility that there could be a delay on a portion of the building that unfortunately may impact your move in date,” Norris said in the email. “While every effort is being made to deliver all of the units on time any potential delay would be short and we are already working to secure temporary accommodations just in case this is needed. Should this delay occur, it may only estimate to be from a few days to a few weeks.”
The Marshall is currently working with SU to find similar apartment-style housing on campus while tenants are waiting to move in. The Marshall will provide all students impacted by the delay with packing and moving services as well as a $200 Uber gift card for transportation costs.
The new complex is an eight-story building that will have retail space and apartments. Located between Marshall Street and East Adams Street, multiple businesses including the student hangout spots of Hungry Chuck’s Cafe and Funk ‘n Waffles were torn down during the spring of 2017.
While it was rumored that Hungry Chuck’s might have a space at the Marshall, it was confirmed last summer that the business would be relocating elsewhere. Blaze Pizza, a fast-fired assembly line pizza chain, will be moving in as a new food spot for students who do not want to eat at the dining halls.
