SYRACUSE, N.Y. (CITRUSTV NEWS) — A new Vietnamese coffee and sandwich shop is opening downtown on Feb. 17.

Shop owner Thoi Trang and his daughters Annie and Amie combined their efforts on a project to open Wake Up Vietnamese Coffee and Sandwich at 207 East Water St.

“It’s a project between me and my daughters, we are trying to bring the flavors of Vietnamese coffee and Vietnamese sandwiches,” said Trang.

The shop’s menu features Vietnamese drip coffee, egg coffee, and different varieties of banh mi, a type of traditional sandwich.

“We are trying to bring the flavor of the Vietnamese coffee and sandwich, called banh mi, it’s very popular in Vietnam, and we are just trying to bring it to Syracuse,” said Trang.

For Trang and his daughters, however, it’s about more than just coffee. They want to create a positive environment for their customers.

They have filled the cafe with various quotes, slogans, and artwork that are meant to help customers leave feeling better about themselves.

“It’s not just about coffee, we just want to send out a positive message to the younger generation,” said Trang.

The shop will open on Tuesday, which is Lunar New Year. Trang and his daughters will celebrate the grand opening with a Lion Dance performance.
