COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility at SU

By Emily Karp

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – This week, New York State is expanding the COVID-19 vaccine eligibility phases for people over 60 and in person workers from New York. Syracuse University staff members, alongside many students, now qualify and have been taking advantage of their opportunity to get vaccinated.

The New York State Fairgrounds, the largest vaccination center in proximity to SU has now increased its hours to 24hr/day.

Soli Bloom, Junior at SU, got her second vaccination from the Fairgrounds last week and recalled, “I went at a time when there were no lines and had a really seamless and easy experience.”

With the three vaccines now available and increased eligibility, the Biden administration hopes to vaccinate all American adults by the end of May, all 18 and older students included.

SU student, Morgan Gross has already received her first shot, and says she has been “really careful” and is very excited to get her second shot.

As more and more individuals in the Syracuse community get vaccinated, they are actively contributing to stopping the spread.
