SYRACUSE, N.Y. (CITRUSTV NEWS) — The Everson Museum of Art in downtown Syracuse hosts seasonal community days with different themes in hopes of attracting people from all around the region.

This fall’s community day focused on lifelong learning and the importance of creativity across generations.

“The goal is to be able to reach new members of our community who may be less familiar with the museum and let them know that this is a place for them. We want to support their creativity, imagination, and learning,” Director of Learning and Engagement, Monica Andrews said.

While the Everson showcases displays from many professional artists, that’s not the goal of community day. They strive to create an inclusive environment for people to spend time and indulge themselves in the realm of art.

“Creative expression is important as someone’s lifelong learning. I think creativity and art making can help us build empathy and understanding. It also really exercises our curiosity and imagination,” Andrews said.

Besides events such as community day, the Everson hosts various programs throughout the year to help promote their mission statement.

According to their website their mission is to foster dynamic and meaningful encounters with modern and contemporary American art through its collections and programs, while engaging diverse communities to inspire curiosity, lifelong learning, and a more inclusive society.

“We engage family and youth in our community through creative expression and connecting them with various partners,” Andrews said.
