Jazz Band Actual Proof Played Their Last Concert At CNY Jazz Central
SYRACUSE N.Y. (CITRUSTV NEWS) — From friendship, community, and music, this is the longtime motto for the jazz band Actual Proof.
Every Monday of the month starting back in June the quintet Actual Proof hosted jazz concerts at CNY Jazz Central. But long time friends and musicians say it’s more than a concert, it’s jazz with a twist.
“It’s straight ahead jazz, latin, rock, soul, and R and B, all sort of came together to create what we would call contemporary jazz,” said Bassist, Ronnie France.
This concert did come with some differences for the band. The CNY Jazz Central venue is a small stage with a smaller crowd. The band felt more than background music at a club, they were the main event.
“People can feel the music, it’s not just an added bonus to the room,” said Saxophonist Brian Scherer. “They are actually here to try and hear us create something.”
The band may be done with their CNY Jazz Central concert series but are moving to a new location before the head out of Syracuse for the winter.
Jazz curator Dave Kaspar is working with the band in a new series called Jazz on the Lake. The band will perform at the Oswego Music Hall Nov. 21.
“Both Brian and Ronnie leave for Florida towards the end of the month and I said well when do you leave, because I have a date for you,” said Kaspar.
Jazz is more than just music, it has been in the lives of these musicians since they were kids. It brings people together and creates long lasting friendships.
