Of Moose and Mind Bookstore Opens In Manlius
SYRACUSE N.Y. (CITRUSTV NEWS) — Being a military family means moving often, this is something the Browning family knows very well.
“So you were always going to some place new and because of that you couldn’t really grow deep roots,” said Monica Browning.
While her husband Mark was deployed in the Air Force, Monica stayed home with her four kids. They both tried to make their house feel like a home, even if it was only for a little while.
They moved around a lot and on their ninth move they ended up in Manlius.
Every time they moved to a new city, Mark and Monica would find the local bookstores, so when they finally settled down, they knew what they wanted to do next.
“If he could dream up his ideal job for after working, after the military, after the airlines and whatever else he is doing. What does he want to do? And he was like I want to spend my time in a bookshop,” said Browning.
Their bookshop Of Moose and Mind was named after Marks favorite book Mouse and Men by John Steinbeck. The name moose isn’t just a literary nod though, it is a tribute to Mark’s call sign.
He’s been known as moose for almost 20 years,” said Browning.
The Brownings want their bookstore to be a place for anyone to come and feel welcome. They want it to help people make connections throughout the community.
