SYRACUSE N.Y. (CITRUSTV NEWS) — As Syracuse University commemorates Remembrance Week on campus, the Department of Justice has released new documents implying a trial in connection with the bombing of flight Pan Am 103 might be delayed.

According to documents released on October 21st, the defense behind Abu Agila Mohammad Mas’ud Kheir Al-Marimi requested the trial be delayed from April 20th due to a conflict from an attorney. The Federal Government opposed the request, citing a negative impact on the victims’ families.

Al-Marimi is the third person to be charged in connection with the bombing of Pan Am 103 which took the lives of 35 SU students. He was charged in 2020 when the FBI reopened the case, and was arrested in 2022.

Two others were charged for the bombing in 1991, one of whom was sentenced to life in prison in 2001 but was later released in 2009 before dying in 2012 due to cancer.

The documents also revealed witness depositions are set for as early as November 17th in a foreign country. The first U.S. deposition is set for December 15th.

The Court did not rule on whether the April 20th trial would be delayed, but the depositions were scheduled for that date. The defense was ordered to clarify how long it would take to find new attorneys while the Government was ordered to figure out witness availability for future depositions in early 2026.

CitrusTV reached out to the University to ask for a comment on the documents, but they have yet to respond.
