Ongoing Investigation Regarding Hateful Comments Found on Newhouse Whiteboard
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (CITRUSTV NEWS) — The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is activity investigating a discovery of offensive comments, including anti-LGBTQ language and a racial slur that were written on a office door whiteboard, Newhouse Dean Mark Lodato said.
Lodato sent out an email around 5 p.m. to students regarding this matter. He states that a student saw the whiteboard and immediately told their professors.
“Let me be clear: this kind of reprehensible behavior has no place at Syracuse University and the Newhouse School,” Lodato said.
He says the Newhouse School is a welcoming environment for students and for faculty.
“The student who reported the incident is a shining example of this commitment,” Lodato stated.
If anyone has any information about the incident, they are encouraged to contact DPS at 315-443-2224 or they can submit a tip anonymously on the Orange Safe app, Lodato said.
Any individual found involved in this incident will be held responsible, according to Lodato’s email.
