SYRACUSE, N.Y. (CITRUSTV NEWS)  — Syracuse University turned up the heat this past weekend with its Calentón Music Fest, a celebration of Latin music, culture and creativity.

Open to all students, the free celebration was presented by University Union, the Student Government Association and Las Naranjas. They are a club that encourages inclusive academics to learn and experience Spanish and Latin American culture.

“I think bringing De la Ghetto here was a way to tap into the communities that are so important here in Syracuse,” said Junior Coordinator for University Union, Kyle McMahan.

Along with the big-name Puerto Rican headline performer, the festival also spotlighted student musicians, dancers, and local creatives, such as Raíces Dance Group — giving them a platform to showcase their talent and connect with the campus community.

“It created a sense of family when you are so far away from home,” said student Jimena Kaiser.

When it comes to community and culture, Syracuse knows how to turn up the volume.
