SYRACUSE, N.Y. (CITRUSTV NEWS) — The Making Strides Organization hosted it’s annual breast cancer walk in Clinton Square yesterday.

Hundreds of community members showed up to support patients, survivors and their families.

“I’m a 23rd year survivor and I can say research has been working since back when I had it in 2002,” Patricia Green said.

One of the key messages throughout the day was the importance of regular screenings for early detection.

Upstate Hospital’s mobile mammography van was on-site at the event, offering tours to attendees.

The van contained all the equipment needed to provide full mammograms to anyone who may be far from the hospital or have mobility issues that make traveling difficult.

“Mammograms are still the best way to find cancer early, so annual mammogram can hopefully find something sooner than you would if you’re not going annually, and you’ll have better options for treatment, ” Program Manger, Wendy Hunt said.

Hunt is hopeful this van can help Central New Yorkers access the resources they need to stay on top of their health.
