SU Renovated Student Schine Center Officially Opens

Yaw Bonsu, SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After the COVID-19 pandemic delayed its opening, the newly renovated Schine Center has reopened on campus.

“I really think that it means access, it means opportunity, it means engagement,” said Meredith Davis, Assistant Vice President of Student Engagement. “This is an opportunity to start to get back to a place where people can engage together in-person.”

The renovations take up 8,600 square feet of space, stretching all from Waverly Avenue to the Einhorn Family Walk.

“We really believe this is a student-driven space,” Davis said. “We want you sitting in there having meetings…there are lots of other places for us for staff.”

Syracuse University has announced all of the new features included with the renovations. It includes places to eat and study as well as large meeting spaces.

Davis says her favorite addition is the large screen in the atrium lobby. “It’s humongous,” she said. “Just imagine a huge Pixar or Disney movie showing in the middle of the day…or a throwback game when Syracuse won a championship.”

To cap off the renovations, the University installed a new club-like atmosphere called ‘The Underground.’ The facility is made to host a variety of events ranging from banquets to poetry slams to even jazz nights.

“The sky’s the limit,” says Davis. “What do you want to see? What do you want to do that makes you feel like you’re involved and you’re becoming a part of the culture on campus?”
