CNY Connections to the Academy Awards | News Live at 6

The annual Academy Awards were Sunday night. There were various connections to the Central New York area throughout the ceremony.
The film Nightmare Alley, which was partially filmed in Buffalo was nominated for three Oscars, but did not win any. The film is a remake of the original 1947 film and is directed by Guillermo Del Toro. Notable actors include Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara.
Also hitting close to home, Syracuse University alumnus Aaron Sorkin directed the film “Being the Ricardos” which was nominated for 3 categories as well. Sorkin is an academy award-winning director who graduated from Syracuse in 1983 with a Bachelor’s degree in Musical Theatre. The film won no awards at the Oscar’s but it did get nominated and win awards at this year’s Golden Globes, in January.
