Live at 6 | SU Major Fair

Amber McElrath – Syracuse, N.Y. (CitrusTV) –  Syracuse University hosted a Major Fair on February 20th to help relieve the stress students feel about changing majors.

The Academic Affairs and the Division of Enrollment and the Student Experience hosted the Major Fair. This event took place in the Schine Student Center. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., students were able to speak with representatives and ask questions about transferring Syracuse colleges or switching majors within the college they are currently studying in.

Representatives from each college had different merchandise to accompany their advice for students thinking about transferring.

Degree Works was also present to answer major specific questions, such as requirements for a specific college. Degree Works provides students with the ability to monitor their graduation progress and see if they are on track to graduate on time.

The counselors working the event believe it was not socialized enough. The Panasci Lounge was relatively quiet around 3 p.m., with only one student asking questions about transferring into Whitman. It is possible that more students were in attendance earlier in the day or they could not attend due to classes.

Kevin Hall, an employee in the Office of the Registrar, believes that these events are vital for students who are interested in changing their majors. As a representative at the Degree Works table, Hall mentioned that many Syracuse students do internal transfers because they realize that their major is not what they are truly passionate about.

For more information on switching majors, contact your academic advisors and make sure to pay attention to future academic events.
