Student Association Voting Opens Today | News Live at 6

By Nicole Aponte

Voting opened up for the 2022 Student Association Election on April 4.This year, the voting process is being conducted through a google form provided by the Student Association.

Students must log into their @g.syr.edu accounts provided to them upon enrolling at Syracuse University. Once logging in, students can access the voting form by using the link sa.syr.edu/vote. The SU community can vote on the three presidential/vice presidential tickets, comptroller, and assembly members to represent the student body for the next year.

“It’s really important to make sure who you want to sort of guide the student experience for the next year gets your support so that hopefully they have the power to do that next year. Richard Kaufman, SA Board of Elections Chair, said.

The Student Association is using rank choice voting to determine the winner of the presidential and executive vice presidential ticket. Students will rank their choices for all three presidential tickets. If no one wins the majority, the ticket with the least amount of first choice votes is eliminated. In this case, the students who ranked the eliminated candidate as first, their vote goes to their second choice. Kaufman said this process ensures the winner has a majority of student votes.

Voting closes Friday, April 8, at 11:59 p.m. The winners will be announced on the Shaw Quad at 12  p.m. on Saturday, April 9.
