Syracuse was looking for the season sweep and its fifth consecutive win this afternoon against Long Island, and SU got it done. Amalie Van Vliet started for a second consecutive game. The freshman had a shutout in her second career start, helping the Orange win 5-0.
The first period started a bit slow for both teams. The puck was going back and forth through the neutral zone, but it was Lauren Bellefontaine who broke the scoreless tie. A powerplay goal from the left circle was her second goal of the series, and she now has points in six consecutive games. SU went into the first intermission up 1-0.
The second period was all about Anna Leschyshyn. The sophomore built off of her stellar performance from last night with an even better one today. The forward scored two goals in ten minutes. The first goal was an absolute snipe from the left circle as a powerplay expired. The second came off of a scramble in front of the net that she cleaned right up. Syracuse had a 3-0 lead with only one period left to play.
Midway through the third period, SU increased its lead to four with the help of, who else, Anna Leschyshyn. The Saskatchewan native scored her third goal of the game, completing the natural hat trick. This would mark her fifth goal in the last two games. Abby Moloughney added a goal from in tight to put this one away. Syracuse closed this one out and outscored LIU this series 10-2.
Syracuse looks forward and plays RIT this Tuesday. A win on Tuesday would make it six straight for the Orange.
