Burlington, VT – Saturday afternoon in the Windjammer Classic Consolation Game, Syracuse (4-10-1, 4-3-0 College Hockey America) failed to score a goal against No. 8 St. Lawrence (9-6-1, 4-0-0 Eastern College Athletic), ending a brutal weekend in which the Orange couldn’t find the back of the net. It’s the first time this season Syracuse has been shutout in consecutive games and the third time overall in the last calendar year. On Saturday, it was a lack of scoring chances that plagued the Orange.
In Friday’s 2-0 loss to Vermont, Syracuse posted 30 shots on goal but Catamount Goalie Melissa Black stopped every shot in a spectacular performance. On Saturday, the Orange only managed 20 shots on goal, and only 10 in the first 40 minutes.
Saturday’s loss adds another game to the team’s recent slump. The last time Syracuse won a game was nearly three weeks ago, a matchup at Penn State on November 4. Since then, the Orange are 0-4-1 and are on a four-game losing streak following a tie against Princeton Nov. 10.
On the St. Lawrence side, the Saints pulled away in the second period, scoring all four of their goals on 17 shots.
Syracuse will have a week off before returning to action next Saturday. However, the Orange face their toughest opponent of the season next week in No. 1 Wisconsin. The Orange and the Badgers face off next Saturday at 2 p.m. and next Sunday at 12 p.m.
