Syracuse men’s soccer blanked in 2-0 loss to Boston College

NEWTON, MA – Syracuse men’s soccer (4-2, 0-1 ACC) hit the road for the first time in over three weeks to face Boston College (3-1-1, 0-1 ACC) in its second ACC match of the season.
SU and BC traded possession throughout the first half of the opening 45 minutes, and both teams struggled to generate shots. Through the first 20 minutes, the Orange had just one shot while the Eagles had two.
As the half went on, the ‘Cuse started to gain momentum. Forward Pedro Gulli had Syracuse’s best chance in the 37th minute with a header toward the inside of the right post, but BC goalkeeper Andrej Borak made an incredible diving save to keep the match scoreless. Neither team found the back of the net before halftime, but the Orange entered the break outshotting the Eagles six to two.
Boston College wasted no time to start the second half. Just seven minutes in, Michael Asari gave the Eagles the advantage with a goal from the right side that rolled past Orange goalkeeper Kyle Jansen.
The Eagles struck again in the 65th minute. Jansen left his box, and Russell Brown found the bottom-right corner off an assist from Moritz Gundelach.
Syracuse had no response in the final 25 minutes, and was shut out 2-0 to suffer its second ACC loss. It’s now back-to-back seasons that the ‘Cuse has dropped its first two conference matches.
Despite more than doubling the Eagles in shots (19 to 8), SU couldn’t get a shot past BC goalkeeper Andrej Borak. Next up for SU is a date with Colgate on Tuesday night.
