Syracuse men’s soccer upsets No. 10 Notre Dame 1-0

SOUTH BEND, I.N. – Syracuse men’s soccer (6-3, 0-2 ACC) traveled to Notre Dame (5-1-2, 2-0 ACC) for the third conference match of the season
SU controlled early on. An early opportunity came in the 4th minute with a corner kick that saw Landon Darko put a header that scraped the right post but didn’t go in. The play went to VAR however the call of no goal stood.
The ‘Cuse had another opportunity in the 25th minute when Badr Lagjibi ripped a shot inside the box which hit off the elbow of a Notre Dame defender and was called a handball. However, after another VAR review, the call was overturned and SU was not given a penalty kick.
Things were a little more back and forth in the second half, until Ivan Irinimbabazi picked up the rebound off Chimere Omeze and Sachiel Ming. The goal marked SU’s first of the season in ACC play.
It was a game Syracuse commanded from the very start. 13 shots, five of which were on goal. The Orange defense also held the Fighting Irish to just three shots, its lowest of the season by that total.
