Tallahassee, FL – Syracuse softball (11-9, 0-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) falls to number 10 Florida State (23-4, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) 13-1 in its second straight five inning mercy-rule defeat. Like yesterday’s game, the Seminoles could do no wrong today.
After allowing two runs in the first, including a solo home run from lead off hitter Isa Torres, FSU scratched five across in the second off SU starter Madison Knight. However, two of those came on a costly error from Orange shortstop Rose Cano.
Speaking of Cano, she would go into pitch in the third. Like Knight, she then gave up a solo home run to the first batter she faced, Shelby McKenzie.
And, just one frame later, the Seminoles put up five runs in an inning for the second time in the game. Florida State drove in runs a couple different ways in the fourth: two doubles, hit by pitch, and a walk.
But, SU’s lone run in the game came in the top of the fifth when Kendall Gaunt crushed her first collegiate home run. All told, the Orange got out hit 10-2.
However, the Orange look to pick up their first conference win and close out their first ACC series against the Seminoles tomorrow at noon. For live game updates, follow @nickzuppe on X/Twitter and @citrustvsports on X/Twitter and Youtube for coverage!
