Syracuse softball gets swept by No. 25 Louisville after a 13-7 loss in game three this weekend

Louisville, Ky – Syracuse softball (18-23, 4-15 Atlantic Coast Conference) gets swept by number 25 Louisville (41-10, 16-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) following a 13-7 loss Sunday. The 20 combined runs are the most in any game for the ‘Cuse this season.
After falling behind 5-0 after the first two innings, Madison Knight hit a two-run home run over the left field fence to cut the Louisville lead to three in the top of the third. But whenever the Orange scored, the Cardinals responded all game long. Louisville added two in the bottom half to make the lead five again.
Then in the fourth, the ‘Cuse exploded for four runs to make the score 7-6. All told, the ‘Cuse scored four runs on five hits, with the swing of the inning being a three-run homer from Madison Knight. That was the seniors’ 13th and 14th home runs of the season, which is tied for the fourth most in a single season in Syracuse softball history. Plus, the multi-home run game is the second of the season and her career.
But, Louisville answered with three runs on four in the bottom half, and the lead went back up to four, 10-6. The rest of the way, SU scored one more in the sixth on an RBI single from Vanessa Flores. Louisville scored three more, with two coming on a home run from Ava Venturelli. The junior hit two long balls, marking the first multi-homer game of her career.
