Syracuse Volleyball fell in straight sets at Boston College on Wednesday night. The Orange are still in the hunt for their first ACC win of the season with five matches left this season.

SU started the match well. Both sides split the first 12 points of the match. Syracuse did a good job starting with a balanced attack. Six different players managed to get a kill in the first part of set one. The teams would go back and forth until the ladder stages of the set. However, after that, it was all Boston College. The Eagles would finish the set on a 9-3 run to grab the set 25-18. The opening set was the most competitive of the match. There were 13 ties and eight lead changes.

Unfortunately for Syracuse, set two was a much different story. Thanks to a cluster of errors the Orange fell behind 10-4. From that point on, BC never looked back. Although the Eagles had more kills in the first set, they still played clean in set two. Boston College would only commit two errors compared to Syracuse’s 12. The Eagles would wrap up the set 25-14 shortly after.

Set three was very similar to the opening set. Syracuse started strong jumping out to an early lead and holding it. Approaching the halfway point SU lead 10-6. However, similar to what we have seen all season, the Orange couldn’t hang on. Boston College immediately answered with a 5-1 run to cut the lead to one. Syracuse did a good job of staying tough to tie the set at 15. But the inviability finally came. The Eagles flew away winning the set 25-18 to complete the sweep.

This match has followed a very similar pattern to the whole season. Syracuse has had its moments of great play but it can’t hold that level consistently. Teams have been able to pull away with long runs in the middle to ladder stages and that’s exactly what happened in this match.
