TALLAHASSEE, F.L. –  Syracuse Volleyball fell to Florida State in a tough, straining five set loss. The Seminoles defeated the Orange in 3-2 sets with a very strong battle from both sides of the floor.

Florida State secured the first two sets. SU came back to fight and snatched sets three and four. Every single game had a lead by no more than four points in each. When it came down to the wire, set five was taken by the Seminoles 15-11, granting FSU the match win.

Today’s match consisted of immensely strong individual contributions from SU’s team. Since the match went to five sets, Syracuse players were given the opportunity to hit higher numbers. That’s exactly what the Orange did.

Junior Marina Markova led the match with 33 total kills and 34.5 points. She bested the next match leader by 15 kills. The middle blocker’s 33 kills marks the third most in program history.  Additionally, Elena Karakasi reached two new highs with 58 assists and four kills.

Defensive Specialist Lauren Hogan was another Orange player that made an impressive appearance out on the court. Before today in the midst of her injury recovery journey this season, her season high was just 16 digs.

Today, the libero recorded 31 total. This is nine more digs than FSU’s match leader and libero, Emery Dupes. Hogan’s performance today was very reminiscent of her season abilities before her injury…it was even better. Her season high last year was marked at 28 digs versus Duke.

While Syracuse reverts back to a losing streak of two, it doesn’t go without saying that the team put up a good fight. Regardless of the result, SU players jumped far beyond their previous records.

SU’s next challenge is on Friday against fourth ranked Pittsburgh. This match-up will certainly be tricky.
