After becoming the No. 1 team in the nation just a couple of days ago, Syracuse returned home to the JMA Wireless Dome to face their fourth ranked opponent in four consecutive matchups. They came into tonight’s game, winning three of those already. And tonight they made it a fourth, beating Stony Brook, 16 to 11. This game was a back and forth battle with ten goals scored in the first quarter.
This game was a back and forth battle with 10 goals scored in the first quarter. But who other than Megan Carney to save the day. Carney had 2 consecutive goals which sparked a 6-0 run by the Orange, and propelled them to victory. Head Coach Kayla Treanor spoke to the adjustments they made which led to the win.
Kayla Treanor: “In the second quarter, it was just, you know, we limited some of those turnovers and we were getting some stops and that allowed us to have momentum and go on a little bit of a run. We just had to make a lot of adjustments. That was the majority of what halftime was. But we had talked about our psychology and you know what we want to do mentally and being prepared when it’s really difficult prior to the game, so I think the players were ready for that.”
Megan Carney: “We just started clicking more on offense. I think our defense started making saves rising and live getting the job controls in our minds just playing out of their mind this game. Our chemistry each day just grows.”

One of the more important storylines from tonight’s game happened right here, where Olivia Adamson had a career-high 12 draw controls. Since Kate Mashewske has been out the orange have struggled but outdrew Stony Brook 21-10. Next, Syracuse goes on the road to face Louisville, and looks to stay undefeated.
