#9 Syracuse avenges old demons in win over #5 Yale

Syracuse, N.Y. | Last year’s Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse team had its season ended in the second round of the NCAA Tournament by Yale. This year’s Orange group (6-3, 3-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) had a chance to avenge that loss on Tuesday against the No. 5 Bulldogs (7-1, 1-0 Ivy League).
No. 9 SU took down Yale 6-5 from the Dome. Revenge was certainly on the mind of SU’s team captains.
“That’s definitely something we talked about all week,” midfielder Joely Caramelli said. “Using that as fuel, that they not only ended our season last year but also beat us in the regular season. We definitely felt like we had a lot to prove against them and honestly, to the whole country.”
Goalkeeper Daniella Guyette led the way for the Orange with 10 saves on 15 shots faced. It’s her third straight game with a save rate above 50%.
“I really try not to take myself too seriously,” Guyette said of keeping composure in tight games. “That really helps my mind settle. I’ve got a smiley face drawn on my shoe, I look at it. I start making god-awful noises to myself.”
“It’s just to really stay loose, stay positive, and if I can keep the energy up, by god, that’s what I’ll do.”
SU is on the road next time out to take on No. 20 Virginia (5-5, 3-2 ACC) in Charlottesville. Opening draw is set for Saturday at 2 p.m.
