Buster Sjoberg Scores a Free Kick in Syracuse Men’s Soccer Draw Against Clemson

On a cold, rainy, windy Sunday afternoon, Syracuse men’s soccer was at risk of losing its second straight match for the first time since early 2021. The ‘Cuse were down in the 50th minute against Clemson. As time went on, things looked more dire for the orange. But in minute 77, the defensive captain, Buster Sjoberg, stepped up and slotted in a free kick to have the match ends in a 1-1 draw.
“I when I was like 14, 15, I used to shoot free kicks, but it’s been a while.” Sjoberg said, “Same routine, five steps back, take a deep breath and score. But I just notice it’s just a routine.”
“Look in full disclosure, he did some practice in the last couple of weeks with Carter, Lincoln and Carter said he was striking a boy was our best free kick taker.” Head coach Ian McIntyre said, “So we haven’t scored one all year. So he stepped up and what have we been doing the last three years with him? So but he took it really well. A quality finish to get us back in the game.”
After today’s draw. Syracuse gears up for its final non-conference match of the regular season on Wednesday against Yale head coaching. McIntyre just said that that game might be the biggest of the season after the loss to Temple back on Tuesday.
