The first game of the Felisha Legette Jack era started out with a win on Monday as Syracuse took down Stony Brook 79 to 56.
After the game, Coach Jack made sure to take a moment, take a breath and enjoy her first win as head coach of the Orange.
“What a great opportunity to be coaching this institution. I don’t take one second for granted. Humbled, excited. Even though we won, I still want more, we still want more, they have a story to tell,” Coach Jack said.
“But we understand this is just one game and we have a lot of basketball to learn,” Jack continued. “A lot of growth spurts we’re gonna go through and I’m so grateful I’ve got these three with me as we go on this journey together.”
A big reason why SU earned the win was grad transfer, Dariauna Lewis, who finished the night with 15 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks. Lewis talked after the game about why she’s here at Syracuse.
“Well if you don’t rebound, it’s a hard chance for you to win the game. That’s what I came here to do. I came here to rebound,” Lewis said. “It don’t matter about me, it’s about us. If our guards need me to rebound so they can keep shooting, that’s what they do. I got a lot of shooters around me so I’m just here to rebound.”

It sure will be fun for Lewis and the Orange to go at it for the remainder of the season. As for today? Syracuse is 1-0 and the Orange will look to try to keep that momentum going on Thursday against Colgate inside the JMA Dome.
