Moloughney Records First Career Hat Trick as Ice Hockey Advances to CHA Finals
IT WAS ABBY MOLOUGHNEY’S DAY FRIDAY AFTERNOON AT TENNITY. THE SENIOR RECORDED A HAT TRICK EN ROUTE TO A 3-2 OVERTIME VICTORY AGAINST 5TH SEED RIT, PROPELLING THE ORANGE TO THE C-H-A CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.
AFTER THE GAME, HEAD COACH PAUL FLANAGAN SAID HIS VETERANS MADE SURE THIS GAME WASN’T THEIR LAST.
“They weren’t gonna let this happen, in terms of ‘don’t let this slip away.’ I think there was never any panic in the locker room when I was in there in between periods and on the bench. Just stay the course, and keep doing what you’re doing,” Head Coach Paul Flanagan said.
“I just kind of remember coming down the side and just thinking, let’s just get a shot on net. I actually meant to keep it low. I typically like to shoot low — you know, I’m fast, so I can get to the rebounds when nobody else was there. But that one just kind of actually came off my stick really weird, not really how I wanted it to. But, I think it hit her glove, and it was kind of slow motion to me, it went in, I wasn’t expecting it, it was exciting,” Forward Abby Moloughney said.
“Throughout the game, there’s always the ups and downs. So we had a little bit of a slow 10-12 minutes. But we regrouped together, we supported one another, and I think that was important going into the overtime and winning,” Defenseman Jessica DiGirolamo said.
