No. 10 Syracuse Field Hockey Falls in Home Opener
It’s been 16 years since No. 10 Syracuse Field Hockey has been defeated in its home opener here at J.S. Coyne Stadium. But today, fourteenth-ranked Ohio State played spoiler and dominated the Orange 5-0 for the worst loss of head coach Lynn Farqurah’s tenure. Ohio State had plenty of chances on offense, with five attacking penalty corners and seven shots on the cage. Three of the goals for Ohio State also came by way of those APCs. After the game, Farquhar said there was still a lot to take away from her group, despite the bad defeat.
“There’s so many elements to the game, and nobody wants to lose right? So it’s a matter of you are going to do something different, are you going to create an edge, and start to perform differently. We took too long to do that, you could see that today. The stats are pretty close near the end of the game, however, it took us a whole half to figure out what we needed to do, and that’s just too much time.”
While corners might’ve been fruitful for Ohio State in this game, they’ve been hard to come by for Syracuse. The Orange only had three in this contest, and now only have five over their last two games. SU will try and change that on Friday right back here against Northeastern. Game time is set for 4 P.M.
