No. 7 Georgia Tech Cruises Past Syracuse 41-16
Della Piana: Haynes King and the Georgia Tech offense made this place, the end zone, its palace today. The No.7 Yellow Jackets hung 41 points on the Orange in a 25-point victory to go to 8-0 for the first time since 1966. King accounted for five total touchdowns, three through the air, two on the ground, and nearly 400 all-purpose yards. Syracuse head coach Fran Brown knows that guy, King has all the right intangibles of a good quarterback.
Brown: I think King did a really good job the entire game running and passing. So, hats off to him. He’s probably a Heisman candidate. He’s a really good football player. So, excited that we had a chance to compete against him today. If y’all watch the kid play on Sunday at some point in time and if he doesn’t play on Sunday when he’s done, he’ll run some company or do something in life. He’s a tough kid and did a real good job. Hats off to him and his family. They did a good job raising a good kid.
Della Piana: It’s the second time in the collegiate career of King that he was responsible for five touchdowns in a game. He now jumps up to second in program history, responsible for 81 scores, just two behind the college football hall of famer in Joe Hamilton. On the other side of the ball for SU, mightily struggled in this area of the field, only converting for nine points. Three of those coming on the opening drive. When Syracuse got inside the one, the Yellow Jackets responded with 20 unanswered points and would roll from there. SU can clean up those woes on Friday night against North Carolina. Bill Belichick and the Tar Heels will be in town at the JMA Wireless Dome. Kickoff for that one is at 7:30. Reporting in Atlanta, Andrew Della Piana, Citrus TV.
