Red Card Dooms Syracuse Men’s Soccer in 1-0 Loss to Virginia

It’s hard enough to win a conference game with all 11 available players on the pitch. It gets a little bit more difficult when midfielder Jeorgio Kocevski decides to pick up a red card 21 minutes in. Adversity finally struck Syracuse Men’s Soccer in a 1-0 loss to Virginia. Despite the result, head coach Ian McIntyre is extremely proud of how his team hung tough.

“A lot of time to be a man down and I thought we were terrific,” said McIntyre. “As the game wore on, that was a big ask. Certainly going down a player, you’ve got to change your formation a little bit. Emotionally, we’ve gone through the ringer. I think our performances deserves something from this game. You’re playing against a good team. Tonight, right at the end they found a way to win the game. That’s the nature of ACC games.”

Kocevski wasn’t the only unavailable midfielder for Syracuse. Amferny Sinclair missed the entirety of the contest with an injury. With or without Sinclair, Syracuse looks for a bounce back on the road against Virginia Tech next Friday.
