Syracuse Crunch Knock Off the Providence Bruins in OT

Andrew Selover: The Syracuse Crunch took down the Providence Bruins 2-1 in overtime tonight. Both teams took five penalties in the game, so really shouldn’t come as a surprise when I tell you that forward Riley Nash netted the game-winner on the man-up opportunity. For the Crunch, this was their fifth straight win and their 11th straight here at home. Syracuse’s five-game win streak is its longest of the season. Tonight’s win was also Ben Groult’s 220th with the Crunch. That ties him with Gary Agnew for the most in Syracuse history.

Ben Groult: “Well, you know what, when I signed here six years ago, that was not one of my goals obviously to become the winningest coach or being tied with Gary. Gary’s a great coach, but I think it shows that we’re running a good program, we have good players, I coach with good coaches, and I’ve been given the resources. It’s also about the organization here, not only Tampa Bay, but also about Syracuse. Howard, Jim, Vance, everyone who’s working with the organization. I think it’s a team effort, and every time I’m going to look at this, I’m glad that my name is associated with all those people.”

Selover: The Crunch are back in action on Friday searching for Groult’s 221st win against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
