Syracuse Demolishes NC State 5-0 in ACC Tournament First Round

Syracuse men’s soccer has had its doubters this year, and deservedly so. After starting off ranked number one in the country, the orange have slid all the way to 22. But tonight, in the first win or go home game of the season when it mattered most, ASU delivered with a five nil drubbing of NC State.

“For it to come together, we knew the challenge of NC State.” Head coach Ian McIntyre said, “Their well-coached team. They make life very difficult. But tonight we got that second goal. And then and that third goal really kind of opened up. So we’ve said that we thought we had goals and so at some stage we were going to catch the team tonight. I’m delighted that we found a way to stay alive in football.”
“We’re really interested in writing our own story, so I think there is a little bit of pressure, but I think there’s more of just excitement to be here and excitement to write a new chapter for Syracuse.” Daniel Diaz Bonilla said, “My dad sent me a text two days ago saying Things can change in a moment. Just prepare for your moment. And so that’s kind of been my mentality all season, just just preparing for a chance. And I got fortunate enough to get on the field and then put away the chance when it came. So that was kind of mentality.”
The five goals tonight are the most in program history when it comes to goals in an ACC tournament match. Syracuse will look to keep its momentum going on Sunday in the quarterfinals of the ACC tournament. As SU travels down to Charlottesville for a matchup with UVA.
