Syracuse edges past Lindenwood with a 2-1 win

At puck drop, the temperature outside was in the single digits. Inside the rink, it took just a single chance for Syracuse (13-13-3, 9-8-2 in Atlantic Hockey America) to find its offensive rhythm.

SU fired off two goals to claim a two to one victory over Lindenwood (8-17-2, 6-10-1 in Atlantic Hockey America). Captain Nea Trevonen got on the score sheet first off a power play goal.

Her goal marks consecutive games where the orange found success on the power play. And that’s something head coach Britni Smith is pleased with.

“I think our first power play, we were really happy with,” said Smith.
”We had a ton of possession, we had a ton of ozone time, so really good momentum. A number of looks at the net that created second opportunities. Power play for us is about continuing to build each two minutes you learn a little bit more from the penalty kill, and I thought our power play did a good, a really good job of just continuing to get on loose pucks. I think that’s a big reason we got that goal was just Stella working hard to keep that puck alive and keep the puck in the zone. Then, obviously a good luck from Maya D’Arcy to find Nea on the backside.

“Basically this is going to be playoff hockey, and if we wanted to kind of get a little taste of it and see what we’re about, it was a good opportunity tonight,” said Smith.
”And we got exactly that, nice to go up two nothing, but, not a comfortable lead, by any means. Then them scoring one with just under two left. That stuff prepares you for playoffs.

The win brings SU’s home victory tally to four, including three in 2026 alone. Two points for the Orange mean they sit two points behind third place RIT in the AHA standings.

Syracuse and Lindenwood are back again tomorrow as Syracuse celebrates a senior class with puck drop set for 1.
