Syracuse Erases 14-Point Deficit to Escape Cornell 78-71

After playing for the first time in 8 days, it was clear that Syracuse women’s basketball had to shake off some rust. Those struggles were evident as the Orange trailed at the break for the first time this season. However, SU erased a 14-point second half deficit to earn a 78-71 victory over Cornell tonight. For head coach Felisha Legette-Jack, tonight’s win boiled down to one thing.

“Resilient. We have a resilient team. There’s not anybody on this team that thinks this is about me, this is what I need to do, this is what I need to get a double double. We dealt with a lot of things last year behind the scenes. When I tell you we’re not dealing with any of that selfish stuff this year I’m not lying to you. These young ladies care about each other they care about the the game being won by Syracuse and that resiliency they’re showing is second to none and I am just humble that I was a I’m able to be in my second year with this kind of tough group of young ladies that exemplify the word resilient.”

“We got mad,  that’s it, we got mad. It’s like what are we doing like we just had a moment where we just got mad and then came out and refocused and just locked into who we are. I think we lost that a little bit and once we did that you know we were good.”

Syracuse improved to 9-1 and collected its 25th consecutive home non-conference victory. The Orange will seek 26 straight on Thursday morning, when they host St. Francis for School Day. Last year, the Dome packed over 7,000 students and the crowd is expected to be even bigger this season.
