Syracuse Falls 5-2 to Wake Forest at Drumlins

St. Patrick’s Day is a holiday filled with luck, good fortune, and well-being. But for Syracuse Tennis, there was no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. After its dramatic 4-3 win over 8th-ranked NC State on Friday, SU fell to the hands of Wake Forest 5-2 this afternoon. The Orange didn’t play badly by any stretch of the imagination. Junior Miyuka Kimoto picked up her second-ranked win in as many matches, but it just didn’t matter. After the match, Head Coach Younes Limam said sometimes, you just aren’t the better team.

“I don’t think we lost the match today, I think [Wake Forest] won it. I thought we executed the situations that we wanted when we needed to and sometimes it’s just the way it goes. I’m very proud of the team. I thought we battled. I thought our body language was pretty good, I thought we kept fighting and trying to find solutions and sometimes you just say ‘too good’ and move on to the next one.”

Despite today’s loss, SU should still rise in the ITA Rankings but that doesn’t mean they are the top dogs just yet. Syracuse hits the road for a matchup against 5th-ranked Virginia next weekend. The Cavaliers enter 13-2 and undefeated at home on the season. The first serve is set for 4.
