Today was Senior Day for 10 Syracuse Field Hockey veterans, and the Orange showed out. In a 4-3 win over Rutgers, a collective of four upperclassmen tallied two goals and three assists. One of those was Joy Haarman, who emphasizes the importance of senior leadership.

“We’ve been an amazing group and we’ve been doing it all together,” said Haarman. “Of course, I’m only here for a year but I think the seniors mean a lot for everyone. I’m very proud of them and it’s a good way to end with them on this field.”

The Orange weren’t just dominant at home today, they’ve been doing it all year. SU is 9-0 for the first time since 2015 and have outscored its opponents 37-8. When it comes to playing on Coyne, the ‘Cuse has a specific mentality.

“Something as captains that we tell our team every Tuesday is, ‘remember that we work the hardest on Coyne out of anyone,’” explained senior Charlotte de Vries. “Nobody’s going to beat us on our field and that’s just kind of a standard that we live by. Even when we’re down on Coyne, we know that we have enough belief to come back because it’s something that’s repeated throughout the week. We don’t get beat on Coyne.”

Syracuse moves to 14-3 and heads to Wake Forest next week for a chance to earn second place in the ACC. Game time is set for 5 p.m. on Friday.
