Syracuse Football dominates Colgate
Football on a Friday night is usually synonymous with the high school level. And well, today here in the JMA Wireless Dome, we got a high school scoreline. Syracuse thrashed Colgate 66-24. It was an offensive barrage from the get-go for the Orange. Syracuse scored in six out of seven first half possessions and rode that lead to a calm victory over the Raiders. And despite the lopsided scoreline and FCS opponent, Syracuse broke records offensively, especially the new signal caller Steve Angeli. The Notre Dame transfer etched his name in the Syracuse history books in just his third game in Orange. Angeli had five passing touchdowns. That ties the single game record for an SU quarterback. Head coach Fran Brown had nothing but good things to say about his new man under center. He’s working really, really hard.
FRAN BROWN: He has great character. He’s a good football player and he’s continuously getting better. You know, he’s getting better every week and he’s going to continue to grind and grow.
STEVE ANGELI: To me, it’s not really individual because some guys have got to catch the football for me, protect, do everything else. So it’s awesome to hear that. Really just what Coach Nixon, Coach Nuns, what they’ve been able to do and just bring out kind of more of who I am as a player and allow me to do it on the collegiate stage. I’m forever thankful that Coach Frank gave me this opportunity.
Syracuse and Steve Angeli met the standard today. They took care of business against Colgate. But now things get a whole lot tougher as ACC play starts next week down in South Carolina. Syracuse heads down to Death Valley to take on number 12 Clemson next Saturday at noon. Reporting from the JMA Wireless Dome, Kiran Costa, Citrus TV.
