Syracuse Gets Routed by No. 4 Colgate 9-0 in Final Game of 2023

Total Domination. That’s really the only way to describe No. 4 Colgate’s 9-0 thrashing of Syracuse tonight in the 2023 finale. The Raiders entered the contest as the third-best scoring team in the country, and left notching 9 or more tallies for the second time in the campaign. Simply put, Colgate flexed its muscles throughout and SU associate head coach Heather Farrell took full notice.

“Colgate is a great team, they’re number four or five in the country right now and we knew that coming in that they were going to be really strong from top to bottom. They have strong forwards that can score, they have great goaltending, they have defensemEn that can be a part of the offense and  skate and they’re physical, they’re big, so we knew we knew all that coming in.”

I thought we had a really slow start,  but then we started to kind of have some good strong shifts, and then we started to build off those shifts and fortunately for us when you give a team like that any time and space then they take advantage of your mistakes. We dug a pretty big hole quickly and from then we just couldn’t catch back up.”

The loss marks the largest goal differential in a game for Syracuse this season. For the Raiders, they’ve now defeated the Orange in 12 straight meetings. The two Central New York schools open the 2024 slate with a rematch, but in Hamilton on January 9th.
