Syracuse Improves to 4-0, Beats Army 29-16

Syracuse football (4-0) defeated Army (2-2) 29-16 Saturday in the JMA Wireless Dome.

It was a tale of two completely different halves. Army scored the majority of its points in the first half and Syracuse’s defensive unit had a shift at halftime.

Marlowe Wax accounted for seven total tackles and he says the change wasn’t something too complicated.

“Shut the run down. It’s simple, you can’t get too complicated with a team like that. They’re going to do the same thing over and over again, so we just had to bull up and stop the run.”

In stopping Army’s run game, Syracuse also outplayed the Black Knights in the air. Damien Alford accounted for nine total receptions and 135 receiving yards. Garrett Shrader explains why he has those numbers from today.

“He’s a big target and whenever we had the one-on-ones just throw it up, leave it a little outside and he came down with them.”

“I’ve trusted Garrett from the jump since he came here. I trust that he’s going to make the passes that are necessary for me to make the catch and that’s exactly what he did today and we all seen it, so it’s just up from now and we just gotta keep playing.”

With Saturday’s win, Syracuse extended its undefeated record to 4-0, but it has an even tougher task coming next Saturday. It’s Clemson and it’s kicking off ACC play here in the JMA Wireless Dome.

Clemson is coming off of a loss Saturday to number four Florida State 31-24. Kickoff for that game starts at noon.
