Syracuse Men’s Lacrosse Beats Towson 20-15 in NCAA First Round After Massive 3rd Quarter Run

At about 8:45 tonight, alarms across central New York were going off because fourth-seeded Syracuse men’s lacrosse was trailing Towson at halftime in the first round of the NCAA tournament. All of the talk of this team being too young and not able to win in May seemed to be coming true. But then a company of SU offensive players decided to show up and extinguish all of those flames.
Syracuse went on a 9-0 run to start off the third quarter with nine different goal scores to propel the Orange to a 20-15 win to start off their NCAA tournament run.
“You move the ball to an open player. They slide to it and move it again.” SU head coach Gary Gait said about the offensive strategy, “You move it again. You find open players and you know, kind of like there were nine different players. But that’s because they don’t care who scores.”
“You know, in that third quarter I think we just kept we capitalized better.” SU attackman Joey Spallina said, “You know, with, you know, thanks to Johnny and Mason, just, you know, constantly getting us the ball and on doing and doing a thing.”
“They are a very talented deep group.” Towson head coach Shawn Nadelen said, “There’s no doubt about that. They do a great job sharing the ball and exploited us at times when we got a little slide happy and they got the stickwork and the ability to to move it and beat you.”
With the win over Towson today, Syracuse moves on to the NCAA quarterfinals, which, funny enough, will be played at Towson on Sunday. The Cuse will take on the fifth-seeded Denver pioneers at noon. Reporting from the JMA Wireless Dome, Adam Gotkin, Citrus TV.
