Syracuse Slips by Loyola 14-13 in Top-10 Meeting

Ian: “The first three quarters of today’s game against Loyola went really well for Syracuse. The Orange led 14-9 with 13 minutes remaining. Then, they nearly threw the game away. They were only up one with 10 seconds left. Then the Greyhounds would literally throw the game away, right into the stick of Bianca Chevarie. The turnover sealed the deal, and All-American defender Sarah Cooper was pretty happy about that.”

Sarah Cooper: “Last year we sent them home from NCAA’s, so it was definitely a revenge game for them. I think that also really fueled our fire today, that they’re coming here to play their best game versus us. And we’re fighting back. I mean, we have two losses so we don’t want to lose again. This was a huge win for us, a top-10 win is huge and moving on from here we’re excited now.”
Kayla Treanor: “Megan (Carney) has a huge impact on the offense and the team in general, especially because she’s a captain and leader out there. But I think she did a great job staying involved in the game, too. You know, talking to the girls when we came over to the sideline. She was really vocal and helping them through it and it gave a lot of opportunity to some different players who stepped up and played well today.”

Ian: “With Megan Carney sidelined, Coach Kayla Treanor needed a star to step up. Well, she’d get two of them. On offense, junior Emma Tyrrell had seven points and now has 15 over her last two games. And on defense, Kimber Hower, well, she used her big spoon represented by my right hand to stuff a career-high 12 shots. The Orange will be back at home on Saturday, April 2nd to play one of the most newly formed teams in all of college lacrosse, and a new ACC rival, in the Pittsburgh Panthers. Reporting from the Carrier Dome, Ian Nicholas, CitrusTV.”
